The Orions are a humanoid race known for their distinctive green skin.

Physiology

Orion males are typically tall, muscular, and hairless, (ENT: "Borderland") while females typically have black (TOS: "The Menagerie, Part II"), red (Star Trek), or green hair (Star Trek: Lower Decks). Orions typically have eye colors similar to humans, with brown and blue eyes the most common. However, some Orions have a unique shade of green eyes that are considered more vivid than typical green shades in humans (USS Baldwin: "Bein' Green")

Orion women are capable of emitting very potent pheromones. The pheremones are typically meant to produce an empathic response in their partner. (USS Baldwin: "Bein' Green") However, they can also be used to make prone to suggestion by increasing the metabolism and adrenaline levels of their target. (ENT: "Bound")

In some Orion cultures, women are expected to display an extreme sexual appetites which, by Human standards, would be considered an addiction to sex. (USS Baldwin: "Family Affair") Other Orion cultures express disdain for the portrayal of Orion women as "manipulative and ever-willing sex objects." (USS Baldwin: "Bein' Green")

Medical Concerns

Orions are allergic to the edible berry of the Terran fruit species Solanum lycopersicum, more commonly known as the tomato plant. (Starship Tristan: Repercussions (Part 1))

Branwyn Asherah, in conversation with Captain Eva Privette, did not discuss if Orions are allergic to other species of the Solanum genus, such as potatoes or eggplants.

Society

The Orion Syndicate is generally ruled covertly by the females, with the males serving as their society's "public face." The Syndicate's influence was spread by selling female agents in slave markets. Once in place, the "slave" will use her pheromones to coerce her "owner" to do her bidding.

By the 24th century, the abilities of Orion females was well-known. However, the sexual allure of Orion females allowed the Orion Syndicate to continue to thrive. Some females, including a high ranking member named Malina, made no pretense about her ability to influence others. (USS Baldwin: "Ronax")

Not all Orions associate themselves with the Orion Syndicate. They typically operate as independent traders. (USS Baldwin: "Bein' Green") Some Orions have become officers in Starfleet. (Star Trek, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Starship Tristan) (Star Trek: Excelsior - Every Good Captain has Admiral issues)
