Nemo

Nemo is the fourth episode of the first season of Star Trek: Abandoned.

Synopsis

Ensign Kira wanders the corridors of the city; a little lost when he notices a power fluctuation. Contacting the control room and hearing that he is near the source of the drain, he proceeds to the location and finds a man in stasis: one of the Inc'Radi. Kira determines the man is not actually in stasis. There is a forcefield around the bed maintaining the environment, but from what he can tell, he is literally just asleep. Lieutenant Gates, Doctor Carson, and CMO Anton Tagan are called down to the chamber to discuss the possibility of reviving him. Tagan believes it is possible, but Gates is still concerned - there is no way to know if he is carrying any pathogens or contagions without shutting down the unit, which would revive him anyway. Carson gives the go-ahead, and Tagan proceeds.

The process is successful, and the man begins to wake. He is able to speak, and the translator is functioning properly, but he claims he does not remember anything, not even his name.

Tagan gives the Inc'Radi a medical examination, marveling at his perfect health. The man asks question after question, quickly trying the doctor's patience, who decides he needs a name. The two settle on "Nemo", Latin for "nobody" or "nameless", as it seems appropriate.

Nemo is taken on a tour of the city, beginning with the control room, in an attempt to jog his memory. Carson is called down to the infirmary, where Tagan has made a troubling discovery - there are Borg nanoprobes in the man's bloodstream.

Professor T'Sora and Nemo are on a balcony overlooking the city. Nemo inquires about her stoic, dispassionate nature, and she explains the history of her race. She is soon called away, though, to join the rest of the senior staff in the infirmary.

The doctor reveals that the nanoprobes in Nemo's brain are spreading and will shortly be able to control his actions. After a heated discussion, the decision is made to confine him to his chamber. The man is confused at his treatment, but once he is locked away, a wealth of images fills his mind, and he remembers. As his assimilation progresses, he breaks free and heads for one of the hangar bays. Stealing an Inc'Radi shuttle, he blasts his way out of the building and flees into a transwarp conduit.
