Termites are insects that can be found on Planet Earth. They are well known for eating dead plant material, especially wood, and are known to cause structural damage thanks to their eating habits.
In Sonic the Comic, giant termites can be found on Planet Terminus. Knowing they existed there, Tekno the Canary volunteered to pilot Astratraz there so that the "guggets" could invade the planet. However, as soon as they disembarked, the giant termites emerged from the ground and completely devoured the invading army. Noting their massive size, Teko immediately took off once the guggets were away from the ship.
