Spiny is a second-generation Badnik. They are small, dome-shaped drones that drift across both horizontal and vertical surfaces with ease. They are normally seen defending the Chemical Plant Zone and attack intruders by launching small bombs from the hatches on top of their heads.
One Spiny Badnik has appeared in Sonic the Comic. Tails discovered one whilst travelling through the Chemical Plant Zone with The Flock. Using Tails' microputer, Sab opened a security door and was confronted by a bomb flying through the gap. The heroes dodged the attack and Sab quickly destroyed the Spiny with her gun.
Spiny Badniks would later return as part of the New Robotnik Empire in Sonic the Comic Online.
