Sandworm is a third-generation Badnik. The Sandworm is in the same family as the Caterkiller and has been modified to function in a desert environment. It can quickly traverse through sand and even quicksand, and when it detects enemies on the surface it will burst out of the ground to attack. A lone Sandworm attempted to ambush Sonic the Hedgehog, but managed to defeat it without Knuckles the Echidna's help.
This model of Sandworm originates from Sonic & Knuckles and operates much the same as it does in Sonic the Comic.
Sandworm II
A later version of Sandworm was a Badnik that Robotnik had created during his occupation of Flickies' Island. This robot differs greatly from its third-generation cousin. It is larger, stronger and carries a laser blaster on either side of its head. Tails and comedian Willie Waddle were
attacked by this robot in the Scorchio Zone, but Waddle distracted the Sandworm by telling it a joke. With its guard down, it was swiftly destroyed by Tails.
Trivia
- In the original video game continuity, Caterkiller and Sandworm were treated as the same badnik doing different jobs. A separate Sandworm badnik was created for Sonic 4 Episode 4, and looked quite different from Catterkiller.
