Rockguard is a castle that protects the dwarf kingdom in the Hammerynth caverns, exclusive to The Legend of the Golden Axe series. The stronghold is the home of hero Gilius-Thunderhead and, after the events of Citadel of Dead Souls, the warrior invited friends Ax-Battler and Tyris-Flare to stay for a while. Unfortunately, his home was currently under attack from Cobraxis and his army of snakes and wizard priests. Gilius, followed by his partners, quickly leapt into battle and eventually cleared the entrance of enemies, but many had escaped into the sacred caverns with many more dwarves dead or hypnotised into serving Cobraxis.
In another chamber, elder Growlus-Stormbreaker summoned a meeting of the most important dwarves to inform Gilius about what has happened. With their consent, he pledges to head into Hammerynth and rescue Queen Silpantia-Dragontamer and is joined by sister Yuki-Plantcharmer. The pair scuffle briefly, with Tyris joining in, but the dwarf siblings soon settle their differences and take a pedal lift down into the caverns. Tyris remained in Rockguard, wounded from going too easy on hypnotised dwarves.
Later, when Ax had returned from his stint of being hypnotised himself, the three main heroes, Yuki and Growlus, congregated around a large funeral pyre to mark the passing of Gilius' father, killed in action by a priest. Keen to remember his dad as he'd want to be remembered, the party soon went down to the wake to enjoy a massive feast.
