Nik Baker is a windsurfing champion who has appeared in Sonic the Comic on two occasions. His first appearance was a small Control Zone entry in Issue 25, detailing his involvement in the sport and how his board is sponsored by Sega.
Baker returned in Issue 59 in the article Record Baker!, an interview with Audrey Wong. During this piece, Baker revealed that, as a 12-year old, Baker noticed a man enjoying himself windsurfing while on holiday. When the family returned home, his father bought a board, learned the basics and taught Nik how to ride. Turning pro and starting to compete in world tours in 1991, Baker stated that the thrills of jumping 40-50 feet whilst travelling at 45 miles per hour are what add to the excitement, particularly when 10000 to 15000 people are watching. He then reels off his achievements to date; Indoor World Champion in 1993 and 1994, plus 5th overall in the Professional Boardsailers Association World Cup in '94. He also came first in the UK O'Neill Windsurfing Championship and was the reigining title holder at the time of the article, before winning the Portugal World Cup.
After this, Baker goes on to list off the best UK places to surf (Shorne, Gwithian, Marazion, Fistral Bay), his favourite band (Guns 'n' Roses) and his favourite Sega games (Sonic the Hedgehog 3 because of the Special Stages, Ecco the Dolphin and Virtua Racing.
