Jonathan Blade (occasionally just known as Blade) is a member of the Eternal Champions. Compared to some of the others, he has possibly the smallest role in the comics.
Previous Life and Death
Blade was born in Syria and raised in Africa before moving to New Chicago in the United States to become a police officer. Dedicated to the extreme, he worked in the meanest streets of the city but his temper often got the better of him. After almost getting killed by a suspect in a case several times, Blade finally caught up with him and beat him to nearly an inch of his life, but the villain survived. Angered, he sued Blade's police department, who subsequently fired Blade to "hush up" the problem. Blade ended up moving back to Syria to become a bounty hunter.
His final mission dealt with a rogue scientist who threatened to smash open a vial containing a virus that would destroy 95% of Planet Earth's population. Blade was hired to safely retrieve the vial on one condition; the government wouldn't interfere. Later, Blade cornered the scientist in an alley and radioed his department to say he had safely gotten the virus from the enemy. Moments later, goverment agents sent to follow Blade attacked with laser shots, smashing the vial and killing Blade.
Eternal Champions
Jonathan was summoned to Fortress Eternity as one of nine warriors tasked with saving the world. In order to train for the forthcoming tournament, Blade visited The Battle Room often but found himself frustrated by Slash's lack of knowledge of the computer systems. The 21st century fighter lost his temper when Slash insisted Blade needed more practice, but was denied any more training when his superior announced the start of combat. The first day of the battle saw Blade fight Larcen Tyler, using his arm-lasers against Tyler's kung-fu. Unfortunately for him, Blade was knocked out by a strike to the neck and sent back in time to take his rightful place in death.
Blade later returned when the coalition of Shadow Yamoto and Midknight insisted that nine Champions would be more effective than just one. Despite his reluctance, Blade was tasked with altering the computers so that Slash would be able to understand them better. During his first full mission, an assault on Nakano Industries, Blade showed emnity towards Yamoto for "sweet-talking" to RAX Coswell, but was forced to share a place with her on Nakano's Brain Scanner, despite not knowing much about the mission at hand. Slash freed the trio and Blade embarked on a quest to destroy all mentions of the Bio-Key on Nakano's computers. After this, he was quickly taken out of the fight by Nakano's new Bio-Keyed mecha.
Special Moves
Blade mainly fights using the Kenpo style of fighting, one that possibly originates from Hawaii. His special moves are largely dependant on technology:
- Stun Beam - possibly used against Larcen
- Personal Shield
- Tracking Blade - used but not seen in training
- Straight Blade
- Projectile Containment Field
- Wild Fury Attack Up
- Backfire
- Power Drain
Character
This bounty hunter is tall, intimidating and wears a costume that seems to shout "take me on - if you dare!". His high-tech weaponry such as stun beams and tracking blades make him a bounty hunter you don't escape from. His temper is his major downside and was what got him kicked from the police force in the first place. He usually keeps it in check, but you wouldn't want to be near him when he loses it.
