The Charm of Despair is an amulet that allows its wearer to enter the Underworld, while also allowing its inhabitants to enter Mobius on Hallowe'en night. Several of the magical items were worn by ghouls from the Underworld of the Haunted Zone and the town's cursed magic brainwashed Sonic the Hedgehog into accepting one, too. Before the charm could pull Sonic from the world of the living, Tails pulled it from his neck. The fox kept the Charm of Despair a secret from Sonic and presumably disposed of it once they left the Haunted Zone.

- During its appearance, a footnote was added to explain what an amulet was. Although such an item has been used to repel evil, as explained here, this is the opposite of what the amulet is intended for in this story.
