VL-44, also called "Vee-El Forty-Four," was a security droid who appeared to have originally been a PK-series worker droid. He served the Resistance during the Cold War.
Biography
Between 31–32 ABY,[1] Admiral Ackbar, of the Resistance was captured by the First Order. In order to rescue him, the Resistance assembled a team, led by Captain Hoff to figure out where Ackbar was being held and save him. Hoff's team eventually captured a droid named O-MR1, who they believed knew the location of Ackbar.[2]
On the way back to the Resistance base, Hoff's team crashed on Taul, with the only survivors of the crash being VL-44, O-MR1, and the droids C-3PO, 2MED2, CO-34, and PZ-99. The group of droids decided to work together to find a way home. Not long after teaming up, the droids picked up a signal from a First Order vessel. On their way to the vessel, the group was attacked by spice spiders. In order to save the others, PZ-99 drew the attention of all the spice spiders to himself, resulting in his destruction. The remaining droids continued on their way, however not long after, they were attacked by Thidaxx and can-cell. 2MED2, CO-34, and VL-44 were all destroyed in the attack.[2]

Notes and references
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary states that Poe Dameron joined the Resistance three years before the Starkiller Incident, which Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates to 34 ABY. Therefore, Dameron joined the Resistance in 31 ABY. As Dameron is a member of the Resistance during the events of Star Wars Special: C-3PO 1, it must take place during or after 31 ABY. Furthermore, the novel Force Collector features the arm of C-3PO, which means that Star Wars Special: C-3PO 1 must take place some time before Force Collector. 'Star Wars: Force Collector' Author Kevin Shinick on How His Story Ties into 'Star Wars' Canon by Dave Trumbore on Collider.com (November 19, 2019) (backup link archived on November 19, 2019)– states that Force Collector takes place a few years prior to Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, or 34 ABY, meaning that the latest Force Collector can take place is at least two years prior to 34 ABY, or 32 ABY. Therefore, Star Wars Special: C-3PO 1 takes place between 31 and 32 ABY.
