- "The mines of Mos Algo. Got a ring to it."
- ―Kay Vess to herself
Mos Algo was mining town located on the planet Tatooine in the far eastern Western Dune Sea, on the border of the North Jundland Wastes that was abandoned by 3 ABY.
Description
Mos Algo was a mining town build up against a rock formation in the northern area of the Western Dune Sea. It had a street that ran from a landing pad past multiple building up to the entrance of the mine.[2]
History
Mining Guild Operation
Before 3 ABY[3] Mos Algo started as part of a survey for phrik lead by a land surveyer. During which the mining operation lasted for 140 days before the operation was suspended. The Mining Guild operated the mine for a while before it started facing diminishing returns from the mine and the guild ended its operation which eventually led to the town being abandoned.[2]
At some point a sandcrawler got stuck in the rocks near the mine and also abandoned. During another time, the Miyuki Trade League established a smuggling cache near Mos Algo.[2]
Abandoned
By 3 ABY,[3] the town was abandoned and was used by Hutt Clan as a shadowport for smuggling. After displeasing the Hutt Jabba Desilijic Tiure, the scoundrel Kay Vess and bounty hunter Vail Tormin are forced to steal data about a spy embedded in the Hutt Cartel from the Imperial Fort Sunfire. After they acquire the data they head to Mos Algo to give the data to the Hutts. Once there, Vess and Tormin are ambushed by Imperial forces made up of stormtroopers, K79-S80 Imperial Troop Transports, a Sentinel-class landing craft and a All Terrain Scout Transport. The pair was eventually saved by the BX-series droid commando ND-5 while piloting Vess's ship the Trailblazer. After which they supplied the information to Jabba who dealt with the spy and allowed Vess and Tormin to once again leave the planet.[2]
During this year the Pyke Syndicate hired Vess to get information on possible mining site as part of the syndicates plans to build a repulsor train on Tatooine. After getting a tip from an engineer in Bestine, Vess headed to Mos Algo to find the journal entries of the engineer's grandfather. She found the day one entry of the journey in a building near the landing pad which detailed the start of the grandfather's search for phrik on Tatooine. Vess used her ion blaster to open a nearby building door and found the keycard to the mine's supply room. In which she found the grandather's journal entry for day ninety two which states that after three months the group had lost half their crew, all the while the supply ships were increasingly sparse and their rations were low. Further in the mine Vess found the grandfather's day 140 journal entry that detailed how the rest of the crew left after the supply ship didn't show up and the grandfather was going to traverse the Dune Sea to a town they heard of and start a new life.[2]
While exploring the mines Vess destroyed a rock blocking a passage way and found the head of a DUM-series pit droid behind a locked door. She also found a Tusken amulet in the remains of the lost sandcrawler. Using Jet Kordo's Holotracker, Vess also managed to track down and raid the Miyuki supply cache.[2]
Behind the scenes
Mos Algo was created for the 2024 Massive Entertainment video game Star Wars Outlaws which was published by Ubisoft. In the game the pit droid helmet can be used to customized the appearance of the player's S57 Cardinal speeder bike. The Tusken charm found in the sandcrawler can be equipped as a major charm and gives the player a surge of adrenaline when shooting from the hip during the first time in combat.[2]
