Morgan Dameron is the assistant to director J.J. Abrams, with whom she worked during the production of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. When writing the film's script, Abrams and co-writer Lawrence Kasdan used Dameron's surname for the character of Poe Dameron, feeling it had a very Star Wars feel to it. She also appears in the film as Commodore Meta.[1][2]
