KL-03, or K-L, was an admin unit[1] and protocol droid owned by the former Jedi Ty Yorrick, who worked as a saber-for-hire during the High Republic Era.[2] KL-03 preferred to be called "Klo."[3] Like her other possessions, such as her astromech droid R0-VR and starship, Yorrick did not see a point in naming the admin unit, seeing the droid as a tool that she did not need to become attached to. Klo was sarcastic[1] and frequently chided Yorrick for being more machine than she was.[2]
Behind the scenes
KL-03 was created by Cavan Scott as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic publishing initiative.[1] The droid was introduced in Ty Yorrick's Characters of Star Wars: The High Republic video on April 15, 2021[2] and was subsequently identified in the novel The High Republic: The Rising Storm, written by Scott and published on June 29, 2021.[4] The admin unit's design was inspired by[5] concept art created by Matthew Savage for L3-37 in Solo: A Star Wars Story.[6]
