Galma, also known as Galma Vicinity or Galma District,[2] was the name of a settlement on the Outer Rim planet Batuu. The settlement's vicinity was host to illegal podraces and droid fights. The village was known for its mechanics, and many of its citizens traveled an hour away by transport to work in Black Spire Outpost.

Description

Galma was a small and rough settlement, considered the most underdeveloped vicinity on Batuu. Its houses were made of various scrap including recycled parts, pieces of metal from starships, and old broken down speeders. Housing in the vicinity included apartment buildings built into large spires that could house several families, and large houses that were occupied by single families. There were also small houses made of wood and mud similar in design to the architecture found in Black Spire Outpost, some of which had underground rooms.[1]

History

During the war between the First Order and the Resistance, a broadcast of a droid battle taking place in Galma Vicinity was broadcast in Black Spire Outpost on frequency BSO 401.72. The broadcast was hosted by Blom Groffitch, an employee of crime lord Oga Garra, the human Haz Bakkel and the alien Dorzek Senn.[1]

Inhabitants

Galma was populated with residents who did not abide by many rules. Many of them came from families of mechanics or individuals otherwise involved in repair and as such were extremely resourceful, versatile and opportunistic. They had little means and few resources and so made do with what they could scavenge from the surrounding areas. When they were working, the residents would often build vehicles or other contraptions, or take part in illegal droid battling or races, which the settlement was known for.[1]

Some inhabitants commuted in to Black Spire Outpost for work, meeting each day at the vicinity's depot and boarding a shuttle belonging to Oga Garra. At the end of the day the shuttle would also return them home.[1]

Behind the scenes

Galma was created as part of the backstory for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge,[1] a theme park land that opened to guests on May 31, 2019 at Disneyland.[3]
