- "Sato is employing a Danaan tactic. Bold. But I'd expect no less from the best commander to ever come out of the Mykapo system."
- ―Grand Admiral Thrawn
Danaan tactics[3] were a type of defensive tactic employed during space warfare. At the Battle of Atollon[2] in 2 BBY[1] during the Galactic Civil War between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, Alliance Commander Jun Sato made use of a Danaan tactic in his command of Phoenix Cell's fleet against the Empire's Seventh Fleet. Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn recognized Sato's use of it, and while calling it bold, he admitted to expecting such a method from his opponent. Thrawn responded to the tactic by ordering his own fleet's center be reinforced and deploying starfighters.[2]
Behind the scenes
Danaan tactics appeared in the first part of "Zero Hour,"[2] the two-part finale of the third season of the animated television series Star Wars Rebels, which premiered on March 25, 2017.[4] The name Danaan tactics was provided in the accompanying episode guide, and is in reference to the Danaans, a name for the ancient Greeks in both the Iliad and the Odyssey.[3]
