Bardram Scoft

"So where are they going?"
"Bardram Scoft."
"What are they going there for?"
"Don't know; don't care."
―Qilori and the Pathfinder dispatcher Prack[1]

Bardram Scoft was a planet located in the Unknown Regions. It was home to the Scofti, whose government changed frequently, often with a violent transition. On one occasion where the previous Scofti Prefect was assassinated, various outside groups, including the Chiss Ascendancy, sent emissaries to Bardram Scoft. While at Bardram Scoft, the Chiss Junior Commander Mitth'raw'nuru "Thrawn" learned that the Lioaoin Regime was supporting pirates that had recently been attacking at the edges of the Ascendancy.

Description

"The Lioaoin Regime will do for now. Suppose I wanted to approach from a different direction than the Ascendancy? Say, from here at Bardram Scoft?"
―Thrawn to Qilori, on travel to Lioaoin space[1]

Located in the Unknown Regions—known to its inhabitants as the Chaos—Bardram Scoft was a planet, situated in a relatively smooth area of the region. It was considered to be a backwater world by the Pathfinder Qilori.[1]

History

"The Scoftic government has changed again, and with it the protocols. Our ambassador must relearn them."
"Ah. I didn't know the old Prefect had been unwell."
"He wasn't. He was assassinated."
―Thrawn and Qilori[1]

Several years prior to 19 BBY,[2] the standing Prefect of Bardram Scoft's Scofti inhabitants was assassinated. Though such an occurrence was not unheard of, the change in government brought a change in protocols. Various nearby groups sent emissaries to Bardram Scoft to meet the new Prefect, including the Chiss Ascendancy, which dispatched a Chiss diplomatic cruiser carrying an ambassador to the planet.[1]

After collecting the Pathfinder navigator Qilori to make the trip to Bardram Scoft, the Chiss cruiser arrived at Bardram Scoft several minutes ahead of schedule. As Scoftic culture necessitated that the highest-ranking military officer accompany the ambassador, a majority of the bridge crew departed after the starship arrived, though Junior Commander Mitth'raw'nuru "Thrawn" remained behind with Qilori. Having noticed a vessel above Bardram Scoft that resembled those of pirates that had struck at the Ascendancy's outer edges, Thrawn questioned Qilori on its design, learning it was Lioaoin. Thrawn's discovery would lead him to deduce that the Lioaoin Regime had been supporting the piracy, prompting him to involve the Ascendancy in a campaign against it and the pirates.[1]

Inhabitants

"The Scofti change leaders and governments frequently, often under violence or the threat of violence."
―Thrawn[1]

Bardram Scoft was home to the Scofti sentient species, whose leader held the title of Prefect. The Scofti would change leaders and their respective governments often, in many cases under violence or the threat of it; assassination of the former Prefect was not unprecedented. The protocols of the Scoftic government would change with each new Prefect. The new leader would also often publicly destroy the personal items of their predecessor, and as such Scofti items were commonly made to be deliberately fragile.[1]

Locations

"Since each new leader typically reorganizes the prefecture's palace, all the way down to the décor and the tableware, the artisans see no point in making anything for them that will last longer than a year."
―Thrawn[1]

The Scoftic prefecture resided in a palace. New leaders among the Scofti frequently reorganized the prefecture's palace, including the decoration.[1]
