- "Outpath. We are go. I repeat. We are go."
- ―Aliss, giving orders to A2-D6
A2-D6 was a pilot droid that served the Galactic Republic's Republic Defense Coalition during the High Republic Era. When the Republic and the Jedi Order attempted to breach the Stormwall hyperspace barrier that surrounded the Nihil marauders' Occlusion Zone territory, A2-D6 served as a sacrificial droid pilot. Its memory backed up and transferred into a replacement housing, A2-D6 piloted the Longbeam cruiser Outpath to test the breach created in the Stormwall. Although the Outpath successfully made it across the barrier, the Stormwall repaired itself shortly afterward, and several Republic and Jedi vessels that attempted to follow were destroyed.
Biography
- "Can they hear me?"
"Yes."
"This is Master Elzar Mann. We have a breach. Go. Go now!" - ―Elzar Mann and Aliss, on the Outpath's success at crossing the Stormwall
The pilot droid designated A2-D6 served the Galactic Republic's Republic Defense Coalition during the High Republic Era.[1] In 229 BBY,[2] the Republic and the Jedi Order attempted to breach the Stormwall, the hyperspace barrier that surrounded the Nihil marauder organization's Occlusion Zone territory in the Outer Rim, by exploiting a glitch in one of the stormseed buoys that powered the barrier. The plan, formulated by technician Keven Tarr and Jedi Master Elzar Mann, involved destroying the stormseeds that surrounded the glitching buoy with the hope that the malfunction might slow down the Stormwall's self-repair systems long enough to send a fleet through the hole in the barrier. As part of the plan, A2-D6 was to serve as a sacrificial droid pilot, with its memory being backed up, replicated, and transferred into a replacement housing.[1]
A2-D6 was stationed aboard the Longbeam cruiser Outpath, which was to be the first starship to attempt to enter the breach point once the buoys were destroyed, with the remainder of the Republic and Jedi fleet to follow if it was successful. Once the fleet—composed of twenty Defense Coalition vessels, eight Jedi Vectors, and the Pacifier-class patrol ship Tractate—had gathered, the Longbeam Shattersong and five other vessels destroyed the designated buoys. The Shattersong's chief communications officer, Aliss, gave the command to the Outpath. A2-D6 responded in affirmation and the Outpath entered hyperspace, successfully arriving on the other side. After receiving a transmission from the Outpath, Mann, aboard the Shattersong, ordered the rest of the fleet to begin making the jump to hyperspace; however, the Stormwall repaired itself sooner than expected, and a number of the vessels, unable to disengage their hyperdrives in time, were destroyed when they attempted to pass through the barrier.[1]
Characteristics
A droid pilot, A2-D6 communicated in a muted sequence of beeps to indicate its understanding when it was ordered to jump to hyperspace in the Outpath.[1]
Behind the scenes
A2-D6 appeared through its voice in the 2023 novel The High Republic: The Eye of Darkness, written by George Mann[1] as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative's Phase III.[3]
