Don't worry. We'll try to keep it as painless as possible.
― Camael before battle
Camael (カマエル, Kamaeru?), known as Nicolus in the original English translation, is one of the Ten Wise Men, one of the data gatherers of the group, the sixth Wise Man to be created and a major antagonist in Star Ocean: The Second Story, its enhanced port Second Evolution and remake The Second Story R.
Story
Camael first appears atop Eluria Tower with the other Wise Men, moments before the clash of Expel with Energy Nede.
He is then only seen again in Phynal, along with Raphael and Zadkiel, where they all fight Claude, Rena and their friends, ending up defeated in the end.

Profile
Although Camael, like the other Wise Men, is bent on destroying the universe, he appears to be the most eloquent and merciful of the organization, offering to kill the heroes as painlessly as possible.
Gameplay
Camael is fought in the second invasion of Phynal, alongside Raphael and Zadkiel. He has the lowest HP and MP and is the only one of the three who cannot teleport, but he can deal severe damage with his pinkish beams. His attacks, like Zadkiel's, hit multiple times and can cause status effects such as poison, paralysis, petrification, and silence. He has high Magic Power and knows powerful spells such as Noah and Thunderstorm, which can kill characters in two castings if they don't have resistance. He also knows status decreasing spells like Delay, Deep Mist, and Acid Rain, though he seldom uses the latter and will usually cast only Noah and Delay if he uses spells at all.

Trivia
- Camael may have been modified with Tetrageniot genes, which would explain the eye on his forehead not found on Nedians.
- Despite his low health, he possesses a very high defense and attack, but moves around the field relatively slow, making him a sort of "mighty glacier" among enemies. Only with speculation however, given his high status, if he were able to teleport and had higher HP this battle would possibly be as difficult, if not more so, than the one against Haniel and Michael.
- In the English translation of the PSX version, his name is changed to Nicolus. This likely comes from Saint Nicholas, a Christian bishop who provided for the poor and sick and is the basis for the popular character of Santa Claus.
