O'Brien is a Sergeant in the United States Air Force stationed at Stargate Command. His post is as a technician in the Stargate Operations room, responsible for the activities there.

Behind the scenes
The name "O'Brien" is a reference to comedian Conan O'Brien. Pierre Bernard, the actor who plays O'Brien, was a graphic designer and comedian for Late Night with Conan O'Brien at the time "Zero Hour" aired. After featuring SG-1 in a comedic skit starring Bernard, he was offered the cameo role. He would later "reprise" his role as Zombie O'Brien in "200". All his experiences behind-the-scenes were documented for Late Night.
