Description

Grandma wears a light purple nightgown with dark purple spots, golden glasses, and dark purple high-heel shoes. Her hair is light blue and in a bun. She has a light green skin tone. In "Choir Boys" and "Shuffleboarding," her nightgown is pink.

Personality

She is a seemingly sweet old lady who practically spoils any snail she takes as her pet with delicious foods, cozy relaxations, fun activities and more labors of love. However, while treating them with great love, she overfeeds her snails which unbeknownst to them fattens them up and she eventually eats them. She also appears to be greedy at a craft store when she took all the scented pine cones without offering any to Patrick.

Abilities and talents

  • Baking: She is shown to have a talent in cooking, as Gary enjoys her cookies, deviled eggs, and many other foods while living with her.
  • Piano playing: In "Choir Boys," Grandma is the piano player for the Bikini Bottom Men's Choir and is shown to be rather good at it.

Role in series

"Have You Seen This Snail?"

Due to SpongeBob's neglect to feed him, Gary runs away from home and is taken in by Grandma after the latter mistakes him for one of her own pet snails, Miss Tuffsy. Unbeknownst to Gary at first, however, she plans to fatten him up and eat him. Despite Grandma acting kind towards him, Gary soon finds out that she has eaten her other snails after opening her closet, finding empty, broken, snail shells and seeing that he has gained a lot of weight from her overfeeding him.

As a result, Gary runs away back to Bikini Bottom for SpongeBob and Grandma goes out to look for him, offering a plate of cookies and deviled eggs before the lovely meatloaf she is making for him is done, but he is overfilled and refuses to eat any more. Gary runs into an alley and meets one of the tough snails from earlier and pushes him into the sidewalk for Grandma. She takes him instead, leaving Gary safe to return to SpongeBob.

"Boating Buddies"

She appears in Downtown on the side of the road during the driving scene. SpongeBob, Squidward, and Mrs. Puff avoid her, to which she shouts "Hooligans!"

"Choir Boys"

Grandma appears as the piano player for the Bikini Bottom Men's Choir. Also, she shares the same voice as SpongeBob in this episode.

"Shuffleboarding"

She is arrested for being too old by SpongeBob and Patrick, who are pretending to be Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy.

"Gramma's Secret Recipe"

She appears in a knitting circle along with SpongeBob, Sheldon J. Plankton in disguise as "SpongeBob's great grammyma," Incidental 84, Gramma/Grandma, and Miss Gristlepuss.

"Super Evil Aquatic Villain Team Up is Go!"

She can be seen walking into Shady Shoals.

"Mall Girl Pearl"

She can be seen standing inside the food court at the Bikini Bottom Mall.

Trivia

  • In "Have You Seen This Snail?," she originally chased Gary with an axe that was replaced with a tray of cookies.[11]
  • In her first appearance, she is shown to own and drive a boat resembling a vintage 1950s American convertible.
  • It is likely that the creators drew inspiration from the witch from Hansel & Gretel to create Grandma. Both characters appear friendly to the protagonists, but in actuality, they're fattening them up just to get them ready to eat.
