The Tuckapaw (better known als the Atakapa tribe) lived in southwestern Louisiana and in southeastern Texas in prairies, marshes and swamps where they could hunt and fish year-round.
Historically, the Tuckapaw were not of particular interest to the European settlers in the region because they had little trade value and were relatively remote, living on lands the colonists were not interested in.
