Appearance
Jiang Nannan has a slender and well-proportioned body, with her long golden hair flowing behind her head. Her skin is like snow, her eyes are like gold that possess a graceful quality. Her face is like jade, like a newly filled moon, like snow around a flowering tree, with tender looks, a relaxed voice, a delicate temperament and beauty beyond comparison. Her presence seems to make the colors around her dull.
Personality
Jiang Nannan is a very kind person treating everyone with respect and has a very graceful temperament which attracts all others.
When she is together with Xu Sanshi however, her personality turns completely cold due to their past conflicts. Her cold behavior and threats are as dark as her regular personality is bright and warm.
Due to her past, Nannan remains stingy with money, often rejecting expensive purchases and bartering for even a few copper coins. Despite this, she refuses gifts and money from Xu Sanshi regardless of the cost.
Nannan prefers simple clothing styles over flowery and elegant designs.[2]
History
Jiang Nannan comes from an extremely poor commoner family and had to care for her sick mother when she was young. After her admittance to the Shrek Academy, she quickly became extremely popular becoming the unrivaled number one beauty in the academy. She amassed a lot of fans and lots of guys confessed their love, but were rejected politely except for Xu Sanshi whom she openly hated and rejected harshly. Nannan rejected so many men, her sexuality was a hotly disputed rumor among the Shrek Academy students.
Feud with Xu Sanshi
In the Light Novel, Jiang Nannan's and Xu Sanshi's feud began at 15 years old, where it is heavily implied Nannan was coerced into prostitution in order to survive, and care for her sick mother. Xu Sanshi, who fell for her looks right away, and having been coerced by his clan into this with a large sum of money, brought her opinion of him extremely low. Her cold heart refused to be swayed, even after she received enough to afford Shrek Academy and become a Spirit Master who didn't need to rely on anyone.[3]
Plot
Shrek Academy
Jiang Nannan having smelled the roasted fish arrives at the fish stall conducted by Huo Yuhao tries to bargain with him. However seeing that he does not wish to bargain, she quickly apologizes and tries to buy a roasted fish. However she is not sold any since the last 2 fish were kept aside for Tang Ya. This causes the surrounding people to become angry for not selling it to Nannan and having seen this Xu Sanshi forcibly takes the fish and tries to give it to her, which she refuses.
The following day she is approached by Xu Sanshi who tries to give Jiang Nannan the fish he bought after queuing up properly. However Jiang Nannan refuses the offered fish and even rejects his confession saying they will never be together. After his incessant whining, she told him she would drop out of Shrek Academy if he didn't leave her alone. [4]
Jiang Nannan becomes one of Yuhao's regular customers, openly praising his skill to Tang Ya despite her shy nature.
When Yuhao and Wang Dong were attacked outside Shrek Academy, Jiang Nannan was one of the first students to jump to their rescue, arriving even before the teachers. She teamed up with Ma Xiaotao, Xu Sanshi, and Bei Bei to kill their enemies, without leaving a single survivor.
During the group battle to determine the reserve team for the Shrek Seven Devils, Nannan was one of the final seven contestants, earning a spot on the team for the tournament. She qualified despite showing mercy, and only throwing her opponents out of bounds. Instead of being happy, she immediately became depressed when she realized she'd be on a team with Xu Sanshi, who was openly gloating.
After she qualified, Nannan was given the option of becoming a Shrek Guardian: a dangerous and shadowy job, where she would assassinate rogue Spirit Masters while disguised under a mask, to protect civilians from the shadows. Despite the serious danger and being only 15, she accepted, becoming a Guardian.
Guardians of Shrek
Nannan's first mission as a Shrek Guardian led her into an bloody cave filled with corpses and tapestries of human skin. When the corpses exploded, their team took heavy damage, killing one of them outright, but Nannan was able to escape serious harm thanks to Xu Sanshi's shielding ability.
The Continental Tournament
With the main Shrek Seven Devil's main team badly wounded, the reserves, including Nannan, had to fight in their place. During the tournament, Nannan took to carrying around a pair of scissors, which she used to snip up bananas whenever Xu Sanshi looked at her lustfully. She snipped her scissors to threaten him often, especially when he openly drooled over other women and then dared to look at her straight after.
Nannan hesitated to buy a Spirit Tool because of the price, prompting Xu Sanshi to say, "I'll pay for you!" His phrasing causes her to fly into an uncharacteristic rage, screaming at him to leave, supposedly because of the memories it brought up.[5]
