Kunpaetku (クンペトクー Kunpetokuu) is the High Priest of the Fygul Cestemus sect and was the one who created Astaroth at the God of War's request. He, however, wanted Soul Edge to himself, so he could turn into a god. Unfortunately for him, Ares' agent of death, Ker, dwelled inside the monster and Kunpaetku lost control over him. Trying to use a curse to control him again, he only obtained Astaroth's rage and the destruction of his shrine, the Shrine of Kunpaetku. He survived only to find Maxi, who seemingly killed him shortly after.
In Soulcalibur V, it is revealed that Kunpaetku managed to survive his killing at Maxi's hand and fought with the other sects of Fygul Cestemus over Astaroth's heart, which was brought back by Ashlotte. He succeeded in obtaining the heart, using it to create a new Astaroth and then mass-produce them into a hoard.
He is apparently slowly getting back on his feet following his cult's near-extinction in the last game, restoring their old research and getting back their armies of monsters.
In Soulcalibur V, Kunpaetku's body is now half-golem. He's also redesigned the archpriests in order to restore all the cult's techniques and technology lost during Astaroth's rampage.
Profile
Soulcalibur VI
The Grand High Priest of the malevolent cult, Fygul Cestemus. The name "Kunpaetku" is given to all who reach the cult's highest position, and roughly translates to "Great Seer."
The most celebrated priest in the cult's long history, this particular Kunpaetku was also the first person since the group's formation to speak directly with their god, Palgaea the Executioner, who ordered him to create a mighty warrior. After many experiments, Kunpaetku successfully created the golem Astaroth. His success convinced him he had accomplished a feat only the gods were previously capable of: creating life. Emboldened, he sent the golem to retrieve Soul Edge. But while the Grand High Priest pretends to be obeying his god's will, he harbors a terrible ambition in his heart; if he can get his hands on the cursed sword, he believes he can become as powerful—if not more so!—than the very god he purports to worship, and seize the mantle of divinity for his own.
