Submarine Combo

The Submarine Combo (サブマリンコンビネーション Sabumarinkonbinēshon?, lit. "Submarine Combination") is a Tag Action in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II which allows Tails to carry Sonic underwater like a submarine.

Description

In Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, the player can use the Submarine Combo by pressing the Tag Action button while airborne in underwater sections. The move is unlocked upon playing Sylvania Castle Zone Act 2 for the first time. If Sonic is transformed as Super Sonic, using the Submarine Combo will revert Sonic back to his normal state. When the Submarine Combo is initiated, Sonic and Tails are transported together to the location of the character whose player activated the move, with Tails initiating in his swimming while Sonic grabs onto his hands will gradually descend. The player can make Tails swim faster by pressing the Jump button (Cross/Circle//B). The move allows the player to cross a variety of long gaps and/or reach higher areas in certain submerged parts of the game's acts that Sonic normally is unable to reach on his own. If the player resurfaces while in Submarine Combo, Sonic and Tails will automatically switch to performing the Copter Combo.

In Single Player mode, the player can manually cancel the move by pressing the Tag Action button while swimming, and doing this will make Sonic drop from Tails' hands. In Multiplayer mode, Tails' movement is controlled by his player. If Sonic's player presses the Jump button, he will jump off Tails' hands, and either player can either cancel the move by pressing the Tag Action button (which will make Sonic jump off of Tails' hands as with Singe Player mode). The Submarine Combo will also be cancelled if an external force affects Sonic or Tails, such as being hit by a Badnik's attack or an obstacle.
