The Shrink Ray, also known as the Reduce/Enlarge,[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It was a device used a number of times by the Knothole Freedom Fighters.
History
The Lizard of Odd
The Shrink Ray was first used by Super Sonic to defeat the Universalamander, which made him so small Super Sonic almost stepped on him.[2] Later, when the villain returned, the device was used against him again only to cause him to grow due to Dr. Robotnik FX Flip Device, which reverses any energy directed against it. However, the Knothole Freedom Fighters overcame this challenge by creating a device designed to make Universalamander grow-and thus shrinking him once again.[1]
Let's Get Small!
Sonic the Hedgehog later used the device again after the Freedom Fighters were infected by Dr. Robotnik's French Frirus, which allowed him to join forces with Rotor Walrus' Auntie Bodies and combat the artificial disease.[3]
Trivia
- Snively would create his own shrinking device in Sonic the Hedgehog #8, though it looked completely different from Rotor's and the effect only lasted an hour.
