IceCap (アイスキャップ, AisuKyappu^?) is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a frozen region located on Angel Island.

Description

IceCap is a frozen location that is located on Angel Island, near the Mystic Ruins. The area has frost and icy mountains that are covered by snow. There are blocks of ice in different forms and sizes. These structures include large and symmetrically stacked blue ice blocks and small multicolored ice stacks whose parts are shaped like diamonds and stars. There are also many caves that are flooded by freezing water. IceCap is known to be inhabited, as wooden cottages are dispersed over the area.

Access to IceCap from the Mystic Ruins is possible through a passage that can be unlocked through the Ice Stone.

History

Classic Era

Sonic 3 & Knuckles

Main article: IceCap Zone

In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and its lock-on version Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic and Tails ended up in IceCap after being shot out by a cannon in Carnival Night. After exploring this Zone, the heroes ended up confronting Dr. Robotnik in the Egg Froster. After defeating the doctor, the duo was able to go to the Launch Base.

Sometime later, IceCap was also visited by Knuckles. Here, he had a fight against an Eggrobo in a re-built Egg Froster. Regardless, the echidna was able to defeat the robot and proceed to the Launch Base.

Sonic Drift 2

In Sonic Drift 2, IceCap was one of the many courses from the Chaos GP.

Sonic Mania Adventures

In Sonic Mania Adventures, during one winter in IceCap, Amy would drag a non-operational Metal Sonic through the Zone on her way to Dr. Eggman's lair, all in an effort to return the robot to the doctor.^[1]

Modern Era

Sonic Adventure

In Sonic Adventure, its enhanced port Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, and the 2010 remaster, IceCap was a location that was visited by Sonic and Tails during their hunt for the Chaos Emeralds. It was also the second location Big visited while trying to rescue Froggy.
