Game-game

Game-game (ガメガメ^[1], Gamegame^?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass produced, turtle-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance

Game-games are based on turtles. They are simplistic Badniks with a blue body, a red shell, and red eyes on both sides. When flying, yellow spikes take the place of the Game-game's limbs, similar to a Frisbee.

Overview

In Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit), Game-games are featured in Sky High Zone and Scrambled Egg Zone. Here, they either walk back and forth on slopes or stand still. When the player approaches them however, the Game-games rises up into the air and flies horizontally over them like a Frisbee, descending towards the player upon aligning directly underneath them, restarting their attack pattern.

The Game-games can only damage the player while they are in mid-air if they touch their spiky undersides. Otherwise, they can be easily destroyed by performing any Spin Attack-related moves. Like the other Badniks in the Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear games, they do not contain Animals, or any other known power sources.

Powers and abilities

Game-games are capable of flight by hiding their limbs, replacing them with spikes, and flying up into the air whilst spinning. This makes them dangerous in groups, although their shells provide no protection.

Trivia

• Game-game is a play on the word kame, meaning "turtle" in Japanese.
• Its habit of flying may be a reference to the kaiju Gamera, who also flies like a Frisbee, and is based on a turtle.
