The Freedom Team is a group that was set to appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog television series. Although they appeared in several images from the show's pitch, they were ultimately scrapped from the final show.
Description
Believed by some to be prototype versions of the Knothole Freedom Fighters (although never confirmed), they were seen in a small series of promotional artwork in Sonic the Comic but never appeared in an animated series.
The group's members included Sonic, Princess Acorn, Flicky, Porker Lewis, Tux, Johnny Lightfoot, Chirps and Joe Sushi. The majority of the members appear to be redesigned versions of the Animals from the original Sonic the Hedgehog video game, even sharing the same names given to them by Sega of America and Sega of Europe. Two of the characters were later adapted by Fleetway Editions into their Sonic the Comic series as Johnny Lightfoot and Porker Lewis, while the name Princess Acorn was applied to a character from the Sonic the Hedgehog television series.
