A Psyncer is a title/profession within the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.
The title of "Psyncer" is given to members of the Advanced Brain Investigation Squad whose jobs are to Psync into the consciousness of Persons of Interest following a criminal investigation. They are the primary members of the ABIS team, making up most of the squad's main operations.

During the events of the New Cyclops Serial Killings, the Advanced Brain Investigation Squad had 6 human Psyncers on the team, each one equipped with an artificial intelligence known as an AI-Ball that assists them in their investigation. By the start of the Half Body Serial Killings, a secret 7th Psyncer joined the team, and once the case resumes 6 years later, an 8th Psyncer officially joins the team.
In order to be admitted into ABIS as a Psyncer, the initiate must undergo a procedure in order to remove their left eye and replace it with a special AI-Ball receptor and their own AI-Ball unit; the only Psyncers that did not need to undergo this procedure are Kaname Date and Mizuki Date (Explosion Route timelines only). Commanded by their squad leader, Boss, and assisted in the technical department by their engineer, Pewter, Psyncers are capable of using the Psync Machine to dive into the consciousness of a Subject sitting on the opposite side of the Machine. Unofficial Psyncers
While officially the title of Psyncer is given to police officers that form part of the Advanced Brain Investigation Squad, there have been instances where individuals use the Psync Machine as "the Psyncer" in order to Psync with a subject. The unofficial Psyncers are:
- Mizuki Okiura – temporary assistant to ABIS (Mizuki Route only)
- Saito Sejima – illegal use of Psync Machine Prototype

- According to Kotaro Uchikoshi, there are secret requirements needed in order to be able to Psync with someone. Whatever these conditions are, it seemingly implies that Kaname Date, Mizuki Kuranushi, Mizuki Date, Kuruto Ryuki, and Saito Sejima meet those conditions, as they are all able to Psync.[1]
