Description

Geese grabs the opponent directly in front of him and throws them high into the air before charging up chi in his hands via waving them in a circle, and upon his foe falling back down in front of him, Geese delivers a twin-palm thrust of energy forward that blasts them away.

In the 2D games and eventually in both Tekken 7 and KOF XV, the hanzi/kanji of the attack's name is shown in the background upon the attack connecting. Geese also once he connects, gestures in a stance for a show of power.

So far only in SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium, the attack first starts off with a following-legged low kick to the victim's shin before Geese flings them up, despite needing to be done as a grab at close range. The higher leveled version starts instead with a 3 hit combo consisting of a jab to the face, a following-handed palm thrust to the gut, and an underhanded leading palm thrust (Geese's classic standing from the old FF games); only then Geese finishes with the launching lift-into-palm thrust finish. Due to graphic limitations, the victim is around one-character-length away from Geese when he flings them up (making it seem like he's not directly grabbing them.

Only in KOF 98 UM via EX Geese, a MAX Super/SDM version exists where Geese instead performs 2 overhead turning throws infused with lightning on the victim before doing the launching lift.

Strategy

Rashoumon in most games can't can be comboed into, and in games where it is cancel-able there really isn't any combo that leads into it that does anywhere near the damage gained long combo strings or Raging Storm.

In KOF XV, Rashoumon is a contender for the "Best Super in the Game" Award. It is an amazing reversal, even more than his already good reversal super. An instantaneous, invincible grab reversal, completely unavoidable if the opponent is standing in grab range when activated; after the super flash it cannot be dodged in any way shape or form until after the animation is finished.

At 500 damage, it's the most damaging super in the game. A guaranteed death sentence if your opponent has half of their health or less left. It has one major weakness in having an incredibly short range.

However, another major issue with the move in older games is that Geese's unique flexing animation after landing it may allow the opponent to punish him if they get back up on time, which is only possible when the victim is already cornered as the recurring wallbounce connects earlier. This essentially makes the attack rather dangerous to land when Geese is not cornered himself or at least midscreen.

Etymology

Rashōmon, or Rajōmon, was the southernmost gate of ancient Kyōto. Possibly tying into Geese's character themes, as the city of Kyōto was built as according to Taoist principles, Rajōmon was built with the Sacred Beast Zhuque/Suzaku (Vermilion Sparrow), in mind as its guardian deity, while its darker history saw it as a meeting place for criminals, bandits, and prostitutes, as well as a place of abandonment for unwanted children during the city's eras of decline.

Its kanji instead goes for an alternate direct spelling, playing off of its more well known meaning as "Gauze Life Gate". The name itself evokes an impermeability as found in traditional Japanese aesthetic and poetic sense of beauty, in how life is as fragile as passing through to death by only a sheet to separate the divide.

Coincidentally within Tekken 7, Heihachi Mishima (and Kuma) also has a different series-recurring technique sharing the same name, though localized as the Demon's Boar.
