The King of Fighters series
Past
Lin is a member of the Hizoku clan of assassins and was Ron's good friend in the village. He was in charge of training the nine princes of Xi Du, the sons of Ron. He eventually was appointed the Deva of his division. When Ron betrayed and murdered many of the Hizoku, Lin joined forces with the three of the Four Devas, Luan, Chat and Sai to hunt him down.
NESTS Chronicles
The King of Fighters 2000

He was ordered by his superior Ling to enter the King of Fighters tournament in order to capture the Hizoku leader, Ron. To do this, he searches for answers in China.

One day, Lin ambushes a man named Seth, a man searching for Ron. During a quick fight, Seth tells Lin everything about the Hizoku, which greatly surprises him, since the Hizoku are a secret. Although he initially wanted to kill Seth for knowing too much about the Hizoku, he puts those differences aside in order to capture Ron. Lin decides to team up with Seth for the upcoming 2000 tournament to find answers. The two travel to Japan to meet up with Benimaru Nikaido and Shingo Yabuki; the former knowing Seth. [1] Shingo was nearly killed by Lin when he almost touched his band, but was saved at the last second by Benimaru. Benimaru and Lin heavily disliked each other from there on out.
After surviving the Zero Cannon's second shot during the tournament's climax, Ron appears before he learns that Ling is really Zero in disguise and that Ron had joined with NESTS.
The King of Fighters 2001
After learning that Ron had defected to NESTS, he tracks the activities of NESTS's renegades, K', Maxima and Whip, in hopes of finding his leader. He continues to search for Ron even after NESTS's destruction, presumably meaning to execute him.
Maximum Impact series
Lin's life is the same as his mainline counterpart until The King of Fighters XI.
KOF Maximum Impact Regulation "A"
This section is considered non-canon. Although Ron does not appear in KOF Maximum Impact Regulation "A", the backstory of Xiao Lon mentions that he trained her in the past.[2]
