Gato is a simplistic Rushdown Character who specializes in both playing close-to-mid-ranged pokes in the neutral and converting into short-combos that yield high damage with his punishing special moves, with his Fuuga's flying-variable followups being used to apply tricky okizeme. His Fuuga's Kouga followup can be inputted quickly just before he leaves the ground to cause an animation cancel akin to a feint that works for both juggle setups or building meter. Even then, his main weaknesses are lacking a dedicated anti-air normal outside of his Raiga and Tatsu Kiba and having no projectiles, forcing him to close in and commit while being exposed to jump-ins and easy overheads.
Even then, Gato with his T.O.P. Attack in tandem with his Tenryuu Retsuga, offers a strong guard crush game to break through even the most defensive of foes. Gato unlike any other character, is the only one to retain the midair turnaround mechanic from the prior Fatal Fury titles, giving him a unique cross-up game over all other characters.
In The King of Fighters series, his moves were slightly adjusted, due to the KOF series not having Just Defends or the T.O.P. System mechanics. While he loses his Raiga anti-air until it returned in KOF XV, his new Ura Fuuga followups give him new flying-variable options to mess around his opponent with. Regardless, Gato still must deal with being committed to some of his followups if one is able to stuff his approaches, and his lack of projectiles to deal with zoning. But ultimately, the sky is the limit with his offensive versatility.
Gato grabs his opponent, then tosses his opponent forwards. Remains in Nagi stance.

Gato does a Shinga to blast the foe back, then leaps forward with an aerial command grab. Upon connecting, he climbs up his opponent to snap their neck with his legs, letting them drop to the floor. The version has Gato twirling around to slam them to the floor in unison with doing a spearhand to his foe's chest upon landing.

Gato rises straight upwards with an energy-laced kick. The version has Gato spinning, this time via a drilling kick motion.
Gato does a focused forward shoulder lean, spins into a twin-palm thrust outwards on both sides of himself, and finishes with an explosive-stomping single palm thrust (where the DM/super flash actually occurs). Each hit if blocked, reduces a large amount of the defender's guard durability.

Gato backhands his opponent. If it connects, he rushes them down with stiff rapid strikes, then drives his palms into his opponent's chest, letting them drop to their knees.
