Beekeeper

The Beekeeper is a woman who lives in the same seaside town as Lemony Snicket and sells honey for a living.

Biography

The Beekeeper is said to be native to the town she lives in, with her bees being from there as well; she says the bees seem happy to let her take and sell the honey, though she can't be sure as she doesn't speak their language. As a child, she read and was fascinated by F.W. Bain's A Syrup of the Bees, which he claimed he translated from a Sanskrit manuscript. She was noted as having known Lemony Snicket for years.

She sold the honey provided by her bees at a market in town. She named her jars "A Syrup of the Bees," after the book she'd read as a child, but she later regretted the name after researching Bain and discovering that there was no evidence any of his stories were translated from any manuscripts.

When Snicket approached her with concern the honey may have been poisoned, she discusses "A Syrup of the Bees" with him, before informing him there was nothing amiss with her honey. She then suggests he investigate the water of his morning tea, and gestures to the beach behind them.^[1]
