Smolten is a dark-grayish material only removable by a Forgesmelter Slug. It can be used to "lock" chests, or doorways. Eli Shane has successfully used his Forgesmelter, Torch, to remove Smolten on two occasions, in the episodes "Inheritance" and "Keys to the Kingdom".
It is also implied that the molten metal that comes out of the Forgesmelter Slug is in fact Smolten.
