Magdalene is a song from Silent Hill 2. It is track 15 in the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack and was composed by Akira Yamaoka. It plays after Maria dies in Brookhaven Hospital and will continue to play until James Sunderland exits the building.
"Magdalene" is also featured in the Silent Hill film, when Rose Da Silva and Sharon return home. The song can also be heard in Silent Hill: Downpour at the Interstate Gas Station early in the game.
Trivia
- "Magdalene" is most likely a reference to St. Mary Magdalene, a renowned disciple of Jesus Christ. There are a few similarities between Maria and Mary Magdalene:
- Mary Magdalene was the first to discover Jesus had been resurrected, something that could be tied into Maria's own "resurrection".
- Mary Magdalene was very frequently (but fallaciously) confused with the anonymous sinner mentioned in Luke 7:36-50, said to be a repentant prostitute, which led to one of her patronages being sexual temptation, a massive focus in the game.
- Mary Magdalene's name can also be translated as "Maria". This ties to both Maria and Mary Shepherd-Sunderland.
