Kelly Asbury (January 15, 1960 - June 26, 2020) was a director and writer best known for his work in animated films.

He had originally been attached to direct Shrek with Andrew Adamson, following a long career as a story artist for various animated features. However, about a year into production, he left to work on Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. He was replaced by Vicky Jenson, but stuck around as a story artist and received special thanks.

After Spirit, he joined Adamson and Conrad Vernon as co-director of Shrek 2, where he also provided additional voices. He continued to voice additional characters in Shrek the Third, and also received special thanks. Asbury would leave DreamWorks in 2009 to work on other projects, including Gnomeo and Juliet in 2011. From 2006 to 2013, he had been set to direct and write several unrealized projects, both animated and live-action. During this time, he would continue his work as a story artist at Disney before directing once again with Smurfs: The Lost Village. His final film before his death in 2020 was UglyDolls, where he replaced Robert Rodriguez as director. The animated film, Spirit Untamed, is dedicated to his memory.
