Eggs are a type of items that appear in Treasure Trove and Shovel Knight Dig, usually used to summon helpful companions.
Appearances
Showdown

Eggs are one of the various powerup items that can be found in a Shovel Knight Showdown match. Once picked up, the Egg will hatch, resulting in spawning a friendly creature that will assist its wielder.
There are three types of Eggs:
- The Griffoth Egg will summon a miniature Griffoth, which will attack similarly to the ones called forth by the Decree of Destruction. Only one Griffoth can be summoned at the time, with previous one disappearing once a new one is called forth.
- The Fairy Egg will summon a miniature Fairy, which will attack similarly to the regular ones. Only one Fairy can be summoned at the time, with previous one disappearing once a new one is called forth.
- The Birder Egg will summon a Birder with team colors, which will then proceed to ricochet around the arena, harmless for anyone with same team color. Unlike the other two types of Eggs, multiple Birders can be summoned at the time, and even fighters of the same team color can damage them. These eggs are shown to be noticeably different from the other Eggs, as well as regular bird eggs, being instead spherical and bouncy much like fish eggs.
All three types of creatures will disappear after taking two hits of damage. Once outside their spawning Bubble, the Eggs, with various speeds depending of the type, will begin to move around bouncing, before eventually disappearing. Eggs are the only type of item that will appear in the Eggstravaganza event in Chester's Choice.
Dig
Eggs once again reappear in Shovel Knight Dig, as Follow Items Eggs can be found in various ways, like inside treasure chests, dropped by defeated monsters, or inside dig piles. There are two variants of Eggs:
- Glass Eggs are the most fragile variants of egg as, once they are picked up, they shatter into pieces if Shovel Knight receives a single hit. They are also destroyed instantly if they fall on spikes and drills.
- Regular Eggs can sustain up to three hits, being dropped on the floor after each hit, after which they will be destroyed. Like the other variant, they are destroyed instantly if they fall on spikes and drills.
- Knightmare Eggs are exclusive to Knightmares. Has the same resistance as Glass Eggs. When they break, they release a spirit that chases Shovel Knight and deals 1 damage point, It cannot be defeated but can be escaped by entering a different room.
When hurt, all following Knightmare Eggs are lost regardless of their order in the inventory. The spirits deal 1 damage point, cannot be defeated but can be escaped by entering a different room
Each variant of egg can be seamlessly used in any empty Nest that is met in a stage of The Well. If successfully brought to a nest, an egg will hatch a helpful follow pet. What kind of companion will hatch is determined by the type of nest:
- A Goopy Nest will spawn a special Horned blue Blorb, resembling Shovel Knight himself, which attacks by bouncing around.
- A Grass Nest will spawn a Fairy, which bites any enemy that enters its range.
- A Smoldering Nest will spawn a miniature Griffoth, which shoots projectiles.
- A Wooden Nest will spawn a Winged Troupple which, unlike the other follow pets, they do not attack enemies and instead heal Shovel Knight when in critical health, before leaving after three heals.
Hatching for the first time an egg in each nest type will unlock their corresponding Memento at the Surface camp.
Initially only one object, be it a an Egg or a Key, can be carried around by Shovel Knight, but after buying from Hoofman the necessary Follow Slot Upgrades, up to three different ones can be stored. If multiple objects, be they Keys or Eggs are being stored at the same time, they will be dropped on the floor (or shatter) in the same order in which they were picked up.
