WedgeLuke is the slash ship between Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles from the Star Wars fandom.
Canon
Luke and Wedge first meet upon Luke's arrival to the Yavin Rebel base. Wedge is a seasoned rebel by this point in time, having joined the cause two years prior. Wedge is tasked with testing Luke's piloting abilities in a flight simulation. He's shot down in thirty seconds, but Wedge encourages him to keep trying. He tells him that thirty seconds is a good first attempt, as on his own first try he only lasted ten. Wedge tells him he needs to keep up his prior sense of self-confidence, and that he's sure Luke will make a great pilot. On Luke's third try, he manages to beat Wedge's record. He apologizes, but Wedge brushes it off. He's amazed at Luke's skills, and says that he's glad Luke is on the side of the Rebellion rather than the Empire. Luke says he owes it all to Wedge's advice, and Wedge tells him to write an autobiography one day which says "I owe everything to Wedge Antilles".
They head to General Dodonna's analysis of the Death Star plans, and Luke and Wedge sit next to each other. When Wedge says that Dodonna's plan of attack is impossible, Luke replies that its similar to shooting womp rats, a hobby he had on Tattooine. Luke and Wedge both join Red Squadron for the assault on the Death Star. At one point, Wedge shoots down a TIE fighter pursuing Luke, saving him. Wedge joins Luke and Biggs Darklighter in a trench run, but his X-Wing is damaged by enemy fire and he has to pull out. He attempts to join Luke on a second trench run, which ends in success due to the arrival of Han Solo.
Wedge and Luke are the only survivors of Red Squadron, and two of only four ships to make it back safely to Yavin. After the destruction of the Death Star, the rebels plan to pack up and find a new base of operation. When Leia Organa steals a transport to sneak off-world, Luke and Wedge are sent out after her. She manages to bypass them, causing Luke and Wedge to fail their mission.
Luke and Wedge continue to fly with Red Squadron, performing a number of missions for the Rebel Alliance. They are both present on Echo Base during the Battle of Hoth, and fly out in their airspeeders to stop the Empire's AT-ATs. A year later, Wedge flies in the Battle of Endor while Luke joins the ground assault team. Following the successful destruction of the Second Death Star and the defeat of Darth Vader and the Emperor, the surviving Rebels reunite on Endor. Luke and Wedge share a hug upon seeing each other again.
Fanon
WedgeLuke is one of the most popular slash ships in the Original Trilogy fandom. Fans enjoy the dynamic between the two, and imagine them bonding as the two surviving members of Red Squadron. Wedge is one of the few reoccurring members of the Rebel Alliance, making an appearance in all three movies of the Original Trilogy. This has inspired fans to imagine numerous missions performed by Wedge and Luke. This would later be reinforced by some of their appearances in the Marvel Comics.
Shippers of WedgeLuke often draw inspiration from both characters being amazed by the others skills in battle. This often turns from admiration into a crush, sometimes playing into the "mutual pining" trope. Others like to draw on Luke's relationship with Biggs, and then his subsequent death, as a way to pull Wedge and Luke together as a romantic pairing. With Luke dying in the Sequel Trilogy, other fans have used that as fodder for WedgeLuke angst.
There are currently over 300 works on AO3 for this pairing. It is Wedge's most popular ship. Its biggest rivals are DinLuke and BiggsLuke.
