Seo Kaoru is a twenty-five year old freelancer and the Ashikabi of Hikari and Hibiki. He is friends with Asama Takehito, dating back to their time in university.[1] Usually at the insistence of his Sekirei, Seo also takes on odd jobs and manual labor.[2][3] He is also an excellent cook, and taught Miya in the past.[4] He is open in his opposition to MBI's schemes and the agenda of its CEO Minaka Hiroto.[5] While Seo is immediately well aware that Sahashi Minato is also an Ashikabi, he strikes up a friendship with him, summarizing his feelings by simply saying "I liked you from the start for some reason."[6] He is able to tell the number of Sekirei an Ashikabi has winged by way of his 'strong nose'.[3] He also mentions that he was the one who built the secret room that Matsu now resides in for Takehito.[3] Miya has a complicated relationship with him, appreciating him for his past help and friendship, but also frequently calling him a bum, useless, etc.[1]

Appearance

Seo

Seo is a fairly tall and lean-built man with brown hair, grey eyes, and a gruff, wild look about him, emphasized by his shaggy hair and unkempt stubble. He is usually seen wearing a white undershirt, sometimes with a brown jacket over it, and a pair of blue jeans.

Personality

Seo is typically a confident, laid-back individual who often shows signs of arrogance and tends to use violence when he loses his composure. He has a very perverse personality, he enjoys touching the breasts of his or other Ashikabi's Sekirei. He sometimes visits Miya in order to eat for free when he's low on money, leaving his Sekirei Hikari and Hibiki to apologize for him. Thanks to this, Miya apparently has a very low opinion of him, easily referring to him as 'trash' or 'scum' right in front of his face and threatens him when he annoys her.[1] Despite his rough exterior, Seo is a good and dependable person as shown when he supported Minato with his plan in order to help Shigi Haruka and Kuno escape from the capital or helping Kusano. He also refuses to drop out of the Sekirei Plan, even though he would be able to, to ensure that the Jinki does not end up in the wrong hands, which stems from a desire to protect the dreams and hopes of his deceased friend, Takehito.[7]

Abilities and Powers

Aside from his standard Ashikabi ability to provide a power up to his Sekirei, Seo also possesses an additional ability given to him by Asama Takehito.[8] This ability, called "Matsurou Ashikabi", is shown to enable the cancellation of a Sekirei's abilities through physical contact, as demonstrated during his brief "fight" with Tsukiumi and his first meeting with Sanada Nishi. Seo is also in top physical shape, able to brawl evenly with Sanada, manhandle several Ashikabi at once, and frequently take beatings from Hibiki, Hikari, and Miya with little lasting damage. He has several miscellaneous talents besides his physical strength and durability, including technological expertise, detective/investigative skills, and carpentry and masonry. Seo is deceptively intelligent despite his hardheadedness, enough to outwit the likes of Higa and Minaka.

Sekirei

History

Seo was once the caretaker of Izumo Inn while Takehito was on duty at Kamikura Island.

Synopsis

Seo first appears working at the same construction job as Minato, and after meeting back up with his Sekirei, introduces himself to Minato as an Ashikabi.[9] The duo team up to help save Kusano from Hayato Mikogami and his Sekirei, with Hikari and Hibiki securing the duo a path to get to Ku inside the arboretum.[6] He shows up at Izumo Inn later that week to bum food and supplies off of Miya, owing to their past friendship as well as Seo's friendship with Miya's late husband, Takehito.[1]

Seo, Hibiki, and Hikari once again encounter Minato as he races to find Tsukiumi alongside Ku and Musubi. Seo's interest currently lay with attempting to find and return a lost cat for the reward money promised, but he runs into a snag when Tsukiumi arrives and inadvertently blasts him with her water, causing the cat to scamper away.[8] Seo seizes Tsukiumi and uses his ability to nullify her powers and disorient her, threatening to forcibly wing her as a ploy to get Minato to find the courage to save and wing her. The trio return to Izumo Inn with the others after the plan works out and Tsukiumi is winged by Minato.[10]

During the Second Stage of the Plan, Seo and the twins appear once more when Minato appeals to Seo for help at his apartment in an effort to allow for Haruka and Kuno to escape the city. [11] The twins largely remain quiet as Seo explains the jist of the plan that he, them, Minato's group, and Haruka and Kuno will carry out to allow for the two to escape.[12] On the night of the escape, the trio do their part as Seo gets the twins to blast the electrical substations and facilities allowing for the passage of trains in the area.[13]

The twins and Seo make a couple of minor appearances of little consequence after this, but their next important appearance occurs during the first matchup of the Third Stage of the Plan, as they are matched up against a team of Hayato Mikogami's Sekirei, as well as a team of Sanada's Sekirei, with a Jinki on the line.[14] As Mikogami and his Sekirei set to work, Hibiki and Hikari are drawn into a comedic and time-consuming situation with Seo, Sanada, Kuzuri, and Kujika. Mitsuki and Himeko, two of Mikogami's three present Sekirei, attack the twins shortly thereafter to prevent them from following Mikogami and Taki. As the twins battle Sanada and Mikogami's Sekirei, getting minimally closer to the Jinki, Shijime, another of Sanada's flock finds and drops it, leading to Mikogami catching it and winning the match. Despite the setback, Sanada and Seo form a bond that causes the twins to comment on the fitting nature of two idiots becoming friends.[15]

During the Fourth Match of the Third Stage, through which Sanada, Seo, and Minato have agreed to an alliance, the twins' arrival at the match site with Seo causes several Ashikabi and Sekirei to duck the fight because of the rumours they've heard about Seo and Sanada.[7] In the enusing chaos of the match, Hibiki and Hikari terminate at least one Sekirei, and along with Seo, rampage through the opposition.[16] By the end of the match, the trio disermbark from the ship with one Jinki, allowing for them to continue on in the Plan's Fourth Stage on Kamikura Island.[17]

As the Ashikabi and Sekirei are brought to the island, Seo, Hibiki, and Hikari are matched up against Matsu, Tsukiumi, and Musubi.[18] During the fight, which is largely cordial and comedic, Hikari and Hibiki recall meeting Seo, with Hikari continuing to pretend she doesn't care about her Ashikabi, while Hibiki is more forthright in admitting that she cares for him.[19] After the twins use their Norito-amplified techniques to assault the trio, Musubi is able to grab the trio and launch them onto a ship monitoring the island, knocking them out of bounds and eliminating them. When the invasion begins, the twins want to move in, but Seo instructs them to wait, as Minato kisses Tsukiumi, allowing her to use a powerful new technique that would have jeopardized their safety if they had moved in.[20] The twins and Seo then pick off stray enemies, but largely play a minor role in the climax.[21]

After Minato wins the Plan, the twins are both pregnant, and eventually give birth to two sons each: Raizou, Raiden, Raimei, and Raigou. They attend the celebratory party at the inn with their Ashikabi/husband and their sons.[22]

During the epilogue/interlude, the twins are both still pregnant, and as part of the process see Miyajima for a checkup, and Seo gets dragged along for a checkup as well. They also defend the island during the epilogue's invasion of Kamikura.[23]

Trivia

  • He is the only Ashikabi shown to have had children with his Sekirei at the end of the series, as he has two sets of twin sons from Hibiki and Hikari each.
