Upa-Upa is the secondary protagonist and one of the playable characters in the Fantasy Zone series, who first appeared in Fantasy Zone: The Maze and Galactic Protector, which were both released for the Sega Master System in 1987 and 1988 respectively. He is the younger brother of Opa-Opa and acts as a leader of the Fantasy Zone defense squad, later starring in his own modes, Upa-Upa Mode and Link Loop Land respectively in 3D Fantasy Zone: Opa-Opa Bros. and 3D Fantasy Zone II W, the Nintendo 3DS ports of Fantasy Zone and it's sequel, Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa respectively.
Appearance
Upa-Upa is a sentient spacecraft who looks almost identical to his older brother Opa-Opa, having a red or purple visor as his face, a blue behind, green bottom, and yellow legs. In Galactic Protector, he has a green visor instead.
History
3D Fantasy Zone: Opa-Opa Bros.
In the space year 1423, following Opa-Opa's adventure the year earlier, the Fantasy Zone was once again cast in panic at the collapse of the interplanetary monetary system. One day, Upa-Upa looked at his older brother's bank account and was surprised as his savings were preposterously high, deciding to save the Fantasy Zone from the Menon Forces instead of Opa-Opa, despite doubting what will happen if he runs out of money and his brother finds out. However, after defeating the invading army, Upa-Upa reaized that his mother was the chief of the enemy forces, who scolded him for wasting money from Opa-Opa's bank account without his permission, following with him getting chased by his older brother, as he bombards him with weapons.
3D Fantasy Zone II W
In the space year 1433, ten years after his battle with the Menon invaders and a year after Opa-Opa faced his bad self, Dark Opa-Opa, Upa-Upa discovered a new planet called the Endless Zone, which promises vast riches to be found and has attracted explorers from all over the universe despite it's dangers. He flew there in search of coins to accrue enough money to pay back his absurdly large debt to his brother Opa-Opa by taking on an infinite number of enemies.

- Upa-Upa appears in the anime Red Photon Zillion, colored yellow with red wings and being smaller than Opa-Opa.
- Upa-Upa became a playable character in Sonic Rumble as of a part of a pre-global launch crossover event during April 11, 2025 to May 7, 2025.
