Solaris, also known as Iblis and Mephiles, is the primordial time and space sun god featured in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). It was a living flame worshipped by the people of Soleanna. During the incident of the Solaris Project, it was split into Mephiles and Iblis. Ten years later, Mephiles was freed and rejoined with Iblis, becoming Solaris once more. He was defeated and erased from existence by Sonic, Shadow and Silver, before the sun god could erase time and space itself.
Mephiles
Mephiles the Dark, is a major villain from the Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). Originally he was sealed away inside the Scepter of Darkness but during the events of the game, he was accidentally released by Shadow the Hedgehog. It was then revealed that he is one half of the sun god Solaris. Mephiles serves as the main antagonist of Shadow’s story.
He was imprisoned 10 years prior to the game by the Duke of Solleana in the Scepter of Darkness. Mephiles was freed when Dr. Eggman attacked Rouge, who was holding the scepter, in the air and dropped it, which caused the scepter to shatter. Mephiles resembles Shadow's form apart for slight color differences. He then manipulated Silver in an attempt to kill Sonic and force Elise to cry, thus releasing Iblis the second half of Solaris in the final chapter of the game. He merges with Iblis and transforms Solaris after impaling Sonic with an energy beam and making Elise cry. After the battle Solaris reverts to a small flame and is blown out by Elise. This erases Solaris from existence.
Personality
Mephiles is manipulative, cunning, vengeful, and evil. He is determined to rejoin with Iblis. He has shown displays of sympathy towards Shadow and Silver, but these were merely facades to get the hedgehogs to do what he wanted. He is given to cryptic comments, revealing half-truths to manipulate others. If something stands in his way, Mephiles first tries to convince it to join him. This implies that he knows for a fact he is not powerful enough to face all enemies.
If Mephiles feels the need to fight, he will do so with stunning wrath and hate. He feels those who get in his way are pathetic and should die. Once defeated, however, he retreats, simmering his vengeful nature once more towards plotting and planning. Unpredictable and willing to go any length to finish what he starts, Mephiles is truly a villain.
Iblis
Iblis also known as the flames of disaster, is a major villain in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). Originally he was sealed away inside of Princess Elise but during the events of Sonic the Hedgehog, he was released after Mephiles killed Sonic, causing Elise to cry. It was then revealed that he is one half of the sun god Solaris. Iblis is also the main antagonist of Silver’s story.
Personality
Unlike Mephiles, Iblis is mindless and fierce. He destroys everything, as seen by him leaving the future in complete ruins. He fought Silver and Blaze with determination. Iblis only causes destruction, and without a mind, he doesn’t have much personality.
