Ecco Jr. is an action adventure game released by Sega for the Mega Drive in 1995 as part of their Sega Club collection.
Plot
This title takes place during Ecco's youth when he was a young dolphin calf.
Ecco and his two friends, Tara the baby Orca and Kitnee the Atlantic dolphin, set out to see Big Blue' an ancient blue whale who is said to be the true king of the sea.
Gameplay
Ecco Jr. retains similar gameplay to previous Ecco titles although as this is aimed at a younger audience, no enemies exist and the oxygen meter has been removed.
Players can take control of either Ecco, Tara or Kitnee during the game and have the ability to use their sonars, pick up items, swim and leap out of the water.
Along the way the player must help lost baby animals find their way back to their mother, herd sea horses, carry pirate treasure and rings, play tag and fulfill tasks to make the Glyphs that block their way happy enough to let them pass through.
Ecco is the all rounder, Kitnee has a different sonar sound and moves slightly slower and Tara is the fastest of the three, but outside of this they all control the same.
Trivia
- This is the only game in the Ecco the Dolphin series that has more than one playable character option.
- This is also the only game Tara and Kitnee appear, although in Ecco the Dolphin: The Tides of Time a dolphin with the name of Kitnee appears. As Kitnee here is an orca they cannot be the same character.
- A modified version of this title called Ecco Jr. and the Great Ocean Treasure Hunt! was released on the Sega Pico.
