The Caterkiller, also refereed to as the Snake, is a reoccurring enemy in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. They are a mass produced, caterpillar based Badnik.
Appearance

The Caterkiller is based on a caterpillar and the bear a slight resemblance to caterpillars. In Sonic Lost World and Sonic Runners they gained a more cartoonish design.
History
Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)
In the original Sonic the Hedgehog, Caterkillers were first seen in Marble Zone and Scrap Brain Zone acts 1 and 2. Here they will move back and forth and cannot damage the player unless the collide with them. If the player defeats them the wrong way, their parts will scatter, dealing damage upon contact unless the player destroys their head.
Sonic 3D Blast
In Sonic 3D Blast, the Caterkillers returned. They keep their design from Sonic the Hedgehog and are referred to as the Snake. They have also gained the attack pattern of the Sandworm. Here the player can only defeat the Caterkiller by hitting their heads as hitting any other part of their body will deal damage.
Sonic Rivals
In Sonic Rivals, the Caterkiller appears as a collectable card.
Sonic Lost World
In Sonic Lost World, the Caterkillers returned as enemies. Here they gained a more cartoonish design. Here they retain their attack pattern from Sonic 3D Blast. They also gained a female design. The player has the hit a Caterkiller in the head to defeat it. Later on a giant, female Caterkiller will start chasing the player and cannot be destroyed.
Sonic Runners
In Sonic Runners, the Caterkillers returned as enemies. Here they retain their design from Sonic Lost World. The player must hit a Caterkiller in the head to destroy it.
Sega Heroes
In Sega Heroes, the Caterkillers appear as a common enemy and come in three color variations, Purple, Red and Blue.
