Bank Panic

Bank Panic is an arcade shooter game developed by Sanritsu Denki and published by Sega for the arcades, SG-1000 and Master System.

Plot

The Hero is the only person capable of preventing the bank from falling to bandits.

Gameplay

The game is played from the first person perspective. You, as the cowboy hero stand in the middle of the bank, which is surrounded by 12 doors. You can travel left and right to look at a set of three doors.

At the top of the screen there are indicators for when someone approaches a door. By moving over to the door, the player will see it open and will be greeted with one of the following:

  • Hardworking John: a man who tips his hat and deposits a money bag into the bank
  • Lucky Mary: a woman who drops off a money bag into the bank
  • Robber A: a bandit who will attempt to shoot you. Shoot him first. Bonus points are given if the bandit was ready for the firefight and thus the fight was 'fair'. Shooting him before he's ready will be considered 'unfair'. More points are awarded the faster you shoot when the bandit is ready for the fight, indicated by a timer that appears above the bandits head.
  • Sam, the Coward: a man who looks similar to John holding his hands up. Behind him a Robber B will appear to be holding him at gunpoint and must be dispatched in the same way Robber A is.
  • Unlucky Ann: a woman who looks similar to Mary holding her hands up. Behind her a Robber B will appear to be holding her at gunpoint and must be dispatched in the same way Robber A is.
  • Hope, a new Rich: A man who looks like John that is tied up with rope. Shooting the rope will free him and he will deposit 3 large money bags into the bank as a result. If the player doesn't shoot the rope in time, a Robber B will appear to be holding him at gunpoint and must be dispatched in the same way Robber A is.
  • Children: These children are holding up a stack of hats and a box which when shot away score you special bonuses. If all the hats are shot away the box turns into a big money bag.
  • The Robber's Boss: indicated by him wearing white boots, this robber requires two gunshots to put down.

Occasionally the bandits will attach a bomb to a door, which must be shot to disable it before it explodes.

The round is over when every door has had at least one money bag desposited from it.
