Metal Detector

Metal Detector

A Metal Detector is a device seen in Scream 3 (2000 film), originally used by Stab 3: Return to Woodsboro (cancelled 2000 fictional film) director, Roman Bridger, the fifth revealed Ghostface in the Scream franchise. The first metal detector shown is a handheld one.

In the third season of the TV series, Scream: Resurrection which featured the return of Ghostface (after his absence in the first two seasons), a metal detector machine used for entry is seen at Weaver High School.

Biography

When Sidney Prescott arrives at the Milton Estate, the mansion where John Milton lives, she gets a call from Ghostface (Roman Bridger). Ghostface points out a small metal detector wand next to Tyson Fox's body and tells her to swipe it across her body so as to reveal any weapons she may be carrying.

This shows the audience how Roman thought ahead for his own safety. Sidney appears to be clean, but the killer instructs her to swipe it across her ankles, only for Sidney to reveal a tiny Beretta 950 Jetfire pistol chambered in .25 ACP, which she got from the LAPD for her protection, along with her bulletproof vest. Sidney is then forced to throw the weapon in the pool.

Eighteen years since the events of Roman's killing spree in Hollywood, as well as seven since the Second Woodsboro Murders (2011), a new series of (unrelated) murders occuring within College Park near Atlanta, Georgia, a 16/17 year old Marcus Elliot and his fellow classmates attending the suburban Weaver High School within the city, have to pass through their own school's metal detector each morning before entering, seeing as their school is a safe zone, thus a no-weapon and no-drug zone. In the episode "Devil's Night", late at night, Marcus's half-brother and killer, Jamal Elliot as Ghostface (chronologically, the eighth), bypasses and makes the metal detector machine go off as Marcus rushes to the school to assist his friends, The Deadfast Club.

Trivia

  • The Beretta 950 Jetfire pistol is presumably supposed to be the FIE Titan Sidney retrieved earlier.
  • The metal detector is just one of the many tricks Roman had up his sleeve to show his superiority over the flawed plans of the former killers and to also ensure his own safety.
  • Sidney and Marcus are the only protagonists who have been shown to have passed through the metal detectors, albeit different, but similar during them trying to face their unbeknownst to them until the reveal, half-siblings as Ghostface (Roman and Jamal).
  • Metal detectors are also used in other locations, such as airports and office buildings to provide security. In the third season, it's shown for use at a public high school, which is also how it's used as well.
