Pipe Bomb Trap

The Pipe Bomb Trap is a trap from the Saw franchise, appearing in Saw X.

Design and Function

The Pipe Bomb Trap consists of a single pipe bomb on each forearm attached by deep piercing pieces of hook-like galvanized cables that, if not removed and quickly discarded, will blow up and remove the victim's arms and likely kill them on their own. The victim of this trap has scalpel-like blades duct taped to their hands that they are used to cut through their forearm to tear out the devices.

History

“	Hello, Diego. Or, should I call you, Doctor Cortez? I'd like to play a game. Attached to your arms are two explosive devices. Pipe bombs. Think of the explosives as a sort of cancer. A malignancy that must be cut out for you to survive. The blades cannot cut through the galvanized cable, but they can slice through flesh and muscle, allowing you to cut the cancer away. Live or die. The choice is yours.	”

After being involved in a fraudulent surgery to "remove" the brain tumor of John Kramer, Diego is brought to the Abandoned Chemical Factory and wakes up tied with a rope around his chest with Kramer in view. Diego cuts through the rope and ends up pulling out a wire attached to him similar to those on traps with automatic times such as the Reverse Bear Trap. A tape falls from above on a string and it explains to him he will need to cut out the pipe bombs on his arms to Diego's horror. Diego angrily screams at Kramer, searching for an exit to no avail. After a while of trying to find a way out without harming himself, he realizes that he will have to follow the rules and remove his "cancer" with his blades. Diego quickly digs into his right arm and pries the bomb off before kicking it away. He then starts cutting into his left arm, but with time running low, he rips the bomb out with his teeth and kicks it away as well. The bombs go off behind Diego as he takes fetal position. Diego survives his game with only 7 seconds remaining.

Aftermath

After surviving his test, John Kramer approaches him with a medical kit for his wounds, comforting him and ensuring that he will be ok.
