Biography
David's Interrogation
This man was a homicide detective who worked for the police. In June 2003, the cop investigated a perfidious murder case. David, an orderly who worked at a hospital, came to the police station after escaping a game set up by a psychopathic killer. After handcuffing the young man, the detective interrogated him. David told him he had woken up at an unknown location and found himself strapped to a chair. While David was unconscious, his abductor had put a mechanical device on his head and hooked it into David's upper and lower jaws. David received instructions from a mechanical ventriloquist puppet that spoke to him via a video recording. The doll described the device on his head as a "reverse bear trap" and demonstrated its deadly function on a mannequin's head. The trap would rip David's mouth open if he did not free himself within 60 seconds. To do so, he had to cut the key to the device from the stomach of his supposedly dead cellmate.
When the tape ended, David successfully freed himself from the chair and ultimately obtained the key by disemboweling his fellow prisoner, who was, in fact, still alive at that point. The cop asked David if he had any enemies at the hospital who could have done this to him, which David denied. However, instead of trying to calm him down, the detective put David under pressure and even rebuked him when he learned from David's initial report that the man he had to cut open had still been alive. Ultimately, this caused David to burst into tears, suffering a mental breakdown. (Saw)
Personality
The cop was a somewhat intimidating individual. When interrogating David about the latter's traumatic experience, the detective barely displayed any emotion toward him. However, he was visibly angered when he learned that David had killed another man to save himself. While this reaction showed that the cop was genuinely disgusted by David's abductor's deeds, it also implied a lack of compassion and empathy. Unable to put himself in David's shoes, he rebuked him for killing his cellmate to survive.
