Donnie Pods are technological devices created by Donatello seen in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie.
Overview
Donnie Pods are hands-free emergency escape devices to quickly retreat from a crisis built by Donatello. They are black coffin-shaped devices with color accents that correspond with their user (e.g., Michelangelo's Pod is orange, etc.) and a front-facing window. Their size is also tailored to their user, seen in Splinter's small Pod and Raphael's large Pod. In their collapsed state, Donnie Pods are small rectangular devices (reminiscent of smartphones). They seemingly rescue users based on they amount of immediate danger they are in, prioritizing those in the most danger to the least, shown in the first rescue of Donnie who was moments away from receiving a blow from Krang Two wielding a concrete pillar and the third-to-last rescue of Splinter who was protected by Raph and wasn't actively being attacked. After locating their user, Donnie Pods deploy black extendable straps to drag their user into them, fastening themselves to their user's chest in a harness-like fashion before assembling to full-size, and flying back to the lair. Donnie Pods automatically release their user at landing and instantly regain their small idle form.
While Donnie has made one dedicated pod specially coloured and sized for each of his family members, he has also made a spare pod for emergencies, as when he activates the pods there is a seventh green pod for Casey Jones.
Donnie Pods can be exited before they take flight by pressing their Turtle emblem, however, it doesn't prevent them from taking flight. They are summoned via Donnie's tech gauntlet and are seemingly stored in his battle shell. A computer monitor inside the lair tracks the Pods' locations as they fly to their destination.
History
Donnie Pods debuted in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie. Although Donnie created them prior to the battle at the Foot Clan's hideout, the first time they were utilized was during it. Raph demanded that Donnie summon the Pods once the fight against the Krang and the Foot lead to Splinter losing consciousness. The Pods then successfully saved Donnie, Mikey, April O'Neil, Casey Jones, and Splinter. However, Leonardo abandoned his Donnie Pod in an effort to steal the Mystic Key from the Krang and interrupt their portal, but ultimately Raph forced Leo to use his own Donnie Pod instead to return to the lair, leaving Raph stranded at the Foot hideout.
