Quote "Something's coming!"

Stella, the Pink Bird is a character in the Angry Birds series of games created by Rovio Entertainment. She was introduced in the Angry Birds Seasons episode, "Back to School," released on August 16, 2012. She is the second to be a playable female, after Matilda (third if one counts Jewel from Angry Birds Rio), and the first new playable bird to be female that wasn't part of the original Flock (the next is Silver). Her first appearance in Angry Birds Rio is in Rocket Rumble.

Personality

As Stella likes to blows bubbles, she may be a young member of The Flock. She shows signs of being childish, but also very cunning, as she quickly thwarts the pigs' plans before they can launch them. She gets enraged easily, but is very happy when not. It was revealed in the Angry Birds Hatching a Universe book and other media that she is a teenager. She is sometimes stubborn and unruly, and hates being told what to do.

In the Angry Birds Stella spin–off series, Stella is much older, around the age of a teenager. She is shown to have a extremely caring nature, and can instantly forgive anyone for their past wrongs to her. She tries her best to keep other birds happy and stays an optimist. Her heart is loyal and will fight for her friends and even at times, her enemies.

History

Main article: Angry Birds Seasons

Stella first made her debut in Angry Birds Seasons'  Back to School. She then joins the rest of the Flock to assist them in preventing the pigs from once again stealing the eggs. She later helps them recover the eggs in Haunted Hogs and Winter Wonderham.

Main article: Angry Birds

After Stella's first introduction in Angry Birds Seasons, she was quickly added into the original Angry Birds game in the Birdday Party theme; being introduced in level 19-1. She then will be a playable character in the themes that follow on. Her and Bubbles are the only two characters whose designs were not changed, as both characters had appeared once all the characters had been reverted to their "Chrome" designs.

Main article: Angry Birds Star Wars

Stella is Princess Leia in the Star Wars game, using a blaster as a tractor beam to pull over pig structures, blocks, and pigs themselves. This power can be upgraded allowing her to pull more blocks and heavier structures. Despite what her sprite sheet looks like she actually has a white tail. She becomes playable once the player has unlocked Hoth.

Main article: Angry Birds Star Wars II

Stella is Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars II game, where she has a similar ability as her daughter, except she pushes objects away from her with a tractor beam. She becomes playable once the player has unlocked Battle of Naboo on the Bird Side.

Main article: Angry Birds Go!

Stella appeared in Angry Birds Go! with the rest of the Flock, along with the pigs. She is the third character introduced in the Seedway episode (the second in the 1.0.0 version), and is also the second character to be unlocked (the first in the 1.0.0 version). Stella's default car is the Soda Pop Sedan.

Main article: Angry Birds Rio

Stella had been introduced so late in Angry Birds Rio to the point that the original Rio segment had been finished. She ended up being introduced in the Rio 2 segment, as the new movie was about to come out and the game had added more levels and themes in order to promote it. Because of this, she only appeared in her Chrome design for a little while then she was changed into her animation design like the rest of the characters in the Rio 2 segment (however, Stella and Bubbles recieved no changes to their actual original designs, and only recieved different colored outlines and better shading, as they were much newer characters). She appears in the first theme of Rio 2, Rocket Rumble. After this, she appears in all of Rio 2, being playable in various different levels.

Main article: Angry Birds Stella

Stella was the main character of her own series, she was 1st introduced bird in Angry Birds Stella. The game was introduced in early 2014, where Rovio began teasing newer birds until they revealed that Stella would receive her own game along with her friends. The game begins when Gale orders the pigs to break into Stella's house to steal her scrapbook, which causes Stella and her friends to fight through each level of pigs to chase after Gale.

Main article: Angry Birds POP!

Stella appeared as the main character of Angry Birds POP! when it was first released, being titled Angry Birds Stella POP! before. However, the Stella characters were slowly taken out of the game and were replaced with the original Angry Birds flock members. Stella was not replaced, but had the "Drop the Pigs" and "Defeat Gale" portion given to Red. She is now only playable on the "Pop the Top" portion. Red also replaced Stella as the main character of the game. Stella appears in her newer series design.

Main article: Angry Birds Transformers

Stella appears in Angry Birds Transformers as Arcee and Airachnid. When vehicle mode is turned on, she will form into a motorbike. Both characters belong to the Valkyries squad. Arcee and Airachnid aren't very strong characters, but Airachnid is much more powerful than Arcee. Both will not be able to destroy very strong structures or armoured targets, so their abilities rely on strategy rather than strength. However, they are very fast in their vehicle form so it can be used to flee when the player is overwhelmed with enemies.

Main article: Angry Birds Fight!

Stella was featured in Angry Birds Fight! as one of the 6 playable and customizable characters. Unlike other games, which based the character's design off the Toons animation but didn't take it directly from the series, Angry Birds Fight! took Angry Birds Toons animations and put them directly into the game. Stella never appeared in Angry Birds Toons, but still had a design for it and the design was used in animations before, like the Back to School animation.

Main article: Angry Birds Ace Fighter

Stella appears in tutorial boxes, visual audio effects, and mail inbox. She is not a playable character and only serves as a background character.

Main article: Angry Birds Holiday

Stella appeared in Angry Birds Holiday, but it is unknown what role she had as the game was scrapped from development and was never released outside of soft launched. It can be assumed that perhaps she had her own building that the player could purchase, or was a roaming character on the map.

Main article: Angry Birds 2

When Angry Birds 2 first launched, it was stated by Rovio that Stella chose to "sit out" of the game, along with Hal and Bubbles. She could be used as a player icon in the tournament in her Stella animation form, but other than that she made no other appearances in the game. Stella is an Extra Bird in Angry Birds 2 who was added in the game on October 17, 2018, and became available to use on October 19. She is usually sleeping but can be woken up to be usable for four hours and occupy an extra eight spot in Red's flock. Once the four hours are up, Stella goes back to sleep, and the player must wait twelve hours before they can wake her up again.

Main article: Angry Birds Friends

In Angry Birds Friends, Stella returns to Golden Island in the Pink Friday Tournament. She has her design from Angry Birds Stella due to her leaving Piggy Island. She later appears in later tournaments.

Main article: Angry Birds POP Blast

Stella appears in Angry Birds POP Blast as a playable character that is unlocked after obtaining 100 points. She has a new power-up. Stella, like all of the characters, uses her movie design and outlined sprites that were made to look like a cartoon. Her animations are similar to the ones from the first game. Unlike other games, her pupils aren't blue in-game, and instead, black.

Main article: Angry Birds Journey

Stella appears in Angry Birds Journey as once again a main character. Like all of the characters in-game, she uses a classic Toons and Movie appearance and cartoonish sprites. She has her classic ability and a stronger ability.

Main article: Angry Birds Reloaded

Stella appeared in Angry Birds Reloaded with the rest of the Flock, along with the pigs. She is the ninth bird introduced in the game.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Original Series

Stella has less power than the Red, aside when using her ability. She cannot destroy neither glass, wood, or stone without flinging her several times. Although she will damage glass, she is not good against any three unless her ability is used. Her bubbles can easily lift objects unless they are under several heavy bricks, like wood or stone. If that occurs, then most likely nothing will change in the level.

Stella Series

Stella's mini-explosion on her second impact makes her a very useful character. However, once made impact without using her ability she is weak. It is suggested the first structure she bounces off of is a weak unsupported structure or an explosive object, as her first bounce is not as affective as her second impact.

Abilities

Original Series

Like BombBubbles, and the Ice Bird. Stella's ability is activated when the screen is tapped, or after a couple of seconds after striking an object. When activated, Stella will surround herself in a bubble, which will expand after a few seconds. Any blocks or pigs within the bubble's range will be trapped in either pink, green or blue bubbles. All of the bubbles will then rise towards the sky. After a few seconds, the bubbles will pop, sending everything that was caught crashing down. The bubbles cannot protect any blocks or pigs they capture.

However, the bubble has a small range. The bubble also cannot lift blocks that are secured in a structure. And thus, Stella will not be effective against heavily fortified structures. The bubble also cannot enclose and trap items. She has weapons to blow bubbles in the images.

Stella Series

Stella now has the ability to ricochet off a surface and crash into another. The second bounce causes a mini-explosion, so it is suggested Stella ricochet off a weaker surface and then crash into a stronger, more fortified one. This is known as Pink Flash.

Trivia

  • In the Back to School trailer, Stella is shown to use a bubble wand to produce the bubbles, however this wand is nowhere in the game itself.
  • In the Angry Birds: Hatching a Universe book, it is revealed Stella went through many changes in development, she was once considered having a blue color. She also resembled many anime characters and the Powerpuff Girls, as said in the book.
  • Stella's plush also reveals she once was a much more temperate shade of pink, while currently she is a light shade of pink.
  • Stella is the first bird to be confirmed female at her release. Although Matilda is female, she was never actually confirmed to be when the game was released.
  • Stella has the most sprite changes/costumes. Her prototype plush shows a rather different sprite (see image gallery). Her sprite in Angry Birds Seasons was different from the prototype. Afterwards, in her release in the original Angry Birds, she had a few minor adjustments. In Angry Birds Rio, her sprite was exclusively changed just for the "Rio 2" segment. In Angry Birds Stella, her sprite was changed to a much more cartoonish look and she had several costumes in the game that could be unlocked. In the Angry Birds Stella animated series, her design is different from her actual Angry Birds animation style. Lastly, there are more than 9 different designs for her in the Angry Birds: Hatching a Universe book.
  • Stella's birthday is on January 17th.
  • Stella is the first Angry Bird to sport an actual eye color other than black (light blue).
  • Stella, along with Matilda and Hal, are the only three birds that don't have a Space counterpart.
  • The name "Stella" means "star" in Latin. The "star" translation was revealed in the Angry Birds Stella Interactive Annual 2015.
  • She is one of the only bird to have a consistent soundtrack. It can be heard though the beginning of the episode The Storm, A Fork In A Friendship and Pop The Top in Angry Birds POP!.
