Lookout is the debut extended play (EP) by Palo-Alto-based acoustic duo Remi & Chloe. The compilation was released on December 13th, 2013 proceeding one previous single, "Run".
Background and Composition
In July of 2013, Remi & Chloe collaborated with White Noise Symphony to compose "Run", a track originally released on White Noise Symphony's Momentum.[4] By late November of 2013, the duo had finished writing their desired tracks and were ready to start engineering the collected songs.[2] To begin recording the EP, the two first needed funding, thus, they launched a Kickstarter campaign.[5] Less than a day after the crowdfunding's publication, the $4,000 goal had been met.[1] Remi & Chloe were surprised by the mass amount of support and decided to set two extra goals with diverse benefits,
If we reach $5,000, we will record and release a music video to accompany one of the songs from our EP. ... At $6,000 dollars, we will work with our full band, The Extracts, to record our two singles: "Gravity", and "Whatcha Doin'", and release them after our full EP.[1]
via Kickstarter
On the 25th, the $5,000 stretch goal had been successfully met,[6] three days prior to reaching $6000.[7] The campaign was closed on December 13th, 2013, the same day the EP released. The band left with over 200% of their original goal, $8,285.[8] An EP release party was held the day of publication at The Riekes Center For Human Enhancement,[9] where their debut single, "Carousel", also originally premiered.[10] The campaign also claimed that donors of above $25 would receive a physical copy of the EP, expected January of 2014.[11]This promise was delivered as on the 28th of February, 2014, the physical CDs were shipped.[12] The team had also set a goal to "record and release a music video to accompany one of the songs" from the EP. This goal was speedily met and a music video for Lookout's "Take the Blame" was eventually filmed.[13] Production finished on January 2nd, 2014.[14] It premiered on June 22nd, 2014 at Sweetwater prior to its online publication in September of the same year on the YouTube channel of those who had produced the video.[15][16]
